Middle School Trip to Quebec
May 20 - 23
The trip will be an exploration of cultural differences and an opportunity to discover what creates and signifies culture. We will be conducting a photo safari and journaling along the way with the goal of creating a photo album and narrative about our journey. If you have a camera that your son or daughter could borrow for the trip that would be great. If not we can buy disposable cameras for this purpose.
The dates for the trip are:
Tuesday May 20th -- Friday May 23rd. We will be staying at some cottages in North Hatley, QC which is near Sherbrooke, about half way between Montreal and Quebec City. The trip leaders will be Ainaka Warnock, the Red Cedar School spanish teacher and myself.
The itinerary is as follows:
Tuesday May 20th --Drop of students at school at the regular time 8:00 - 8:30 AM. 9:00 we will drive north to N. Hatley -Approximately 3 hours.
Wednesday May 21st -- Drive to Quebec City for the day to explore
Thursday May 22nd -- Drive to Montreal to explore
Friday May 23rd -- Return to Red Cedar before 2:45 PM, Regular end of day pick up.
The cost of the trip is $300.00 per student.
Included in the orientation package you received at the beginning of the year was the mention that this cost was an expected financial obligation. We have tried very hard to keep the annual field trip costs, including the winter camping trip, within the $500 dollar limit outlined by that original statement. We will work very hard to limit the expenses of the trip and apply any money we don't spend back to your accounts. I hope this expense was not unexpected and if you have any difficulty meeting this cost before the date of the trip please contact me immediately.
The middle school has arranged to do some fundraising to help mitigate the cost of the trip. We will be making lunches for purchase at the school on Tuesday, Wed. and Thursdays for two weeks prior to the trip.
We will be generating a packing list soon, This is not a camping trip and so the packing should be pretty easy.
Special needs include:
Passport!!! This is incredibly important! I have asked the students and they have said they all have passports, The recent security changes in the US and Canada mean that this document is vital to our smooth passage across the border. If you don't have a passport for your child please notify me immediately so I can make arrangements with the authorities.
A camera if you have one. There are a couple of options if you need one to borrow, but this is a big part of our academic component for the trip.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns,
Sincerely,
Lonny Edwards
